For my money, the biggest news to come out of the jazz world last year was that fusion super-group Return to Forever would reunite for its first tour in 25 years. That announcement came back in December, well in advance of the actual tour, and the wait has been nearly unbearable.
Finally, it’s just about time for the shows. Return to Forever _ featuring keyboardist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke, guitarist Al Di Meola and drummer Lenny White _ will perform June 11-12 at the Grand Ballroom at the Regency Center, 1290 Sutter St., San Francisco. The band will play two shows each night, at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $79.70. Call 510-625-TIXS, 925-685-TIXS or 415-421-TIXS or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
To properly prep yourself for these historic dates, you might want to pick up a copy of the newly released “Anthology.†The collection features remixed and remastered tracks from the albums “Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy,” “Where Have I Known You Before,” “No Mystery” and “Romantic Warrior.”
After listening to “Anthology,†I’m so revved up that I plan to attend two of the shows at the Grand. My plans, however, could change _ I might end up going to all four.
